MEETING MINUTES—MARCH 5, 2014

Despite the unfavorable weather forecast, over twenty members greeted our guests, a team from Community Hospital in Anderson.  Stephanie and Terri presented an extensive program on how to avoid physical injuries while performing quilting operations.  Their Power Point presentation highlighted a wide range of preventive majors.  A carryall was also presented containing further information for members to take home.

Linda discussed the 2014 meeting programs that have been obtained by the Program Advisory Panel.  These include two meetings to be held at the Conservation Building in Falls Park which will be free to members but visitors will be asked for a $5 admission fee.  A printed copy of the 2014 schedule was distributed which erroneously noted the Community Room as the meeting location for June and October.  A corrected copy will be distributed to indicate these meetings have been moved to the Conservation Building to accommodate a larger than normal attendance due to the speakers involved.

Jean read a letter from the Riley Cheer Guild expressing their appreciation for our contributions.  She also reported we currently have 54 baby quilts ready to deliver to Riley.

Treasurer’s Report:  Written report accepted as presented.  Marsha also distributed an updated membership list.
Secretary’s Report:  Written report accepted as presented.

Corene showed samples of the batik fabrics being used in our 2014 raffle quilt.  She also reported that construction is coming right along and we should soon be ready to purchase backing and commence quilting.  A sew day was announced for March 12 at the Community Building starting at 9:30 a.m.

Suzanne noted that December 11, 2016, will mark Indiana’s 200th birthday and asked for members to be thinking of a project the guild might complete for the celebration.

Due to canceled meetings in January and February, we celebrated 14 birthdays.

MEETING MINUTES—DECEMBER  2013

Our December meeting opened with a blessing prayer offered by Nancy Hutsell.  We then proceeded to enjoy a wide array of tasty dishes for our annual Christmas Pitch In.

A short business meeting followed the pitch in.  President Suzanne told us she was working with the library to obtain an alternate date for our January meeting since it falls on a holiday this year.  We were unable to obtain the Community Building because it is used each Wednesday for Boy Scout meetings.

A January Sew Day was discussed and it was decided a final decision would be announced at the January meeting.

The Program Advisory Panel announced some ideas for 2014 programs including group progressive quilting, members doing demonstrations, and working on a BOM for either Riley or Quilts of Valor.

Linda Lupton coordinated two enjoyable game programs as after dinner entertainment.  Passing mysterious brown paper bags right and left in response to a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer poem, yielded equally enjoyable and mysterious gifts for the final recipients.  A large ball of bubble wrap bounced around as we sang Christmas songs and stopped, as in musical chairs, when the music stopped.  When the ball stopped the person had a chance to tear into it to retrieve a prize. Needless to say, there were lots of laughs and lots of fun.

Christmas and holiday themed items were featured in the Show and Tell session.

MEETING MINUTES--NOVEMBER 4, 2013

President Suzanne opened the meeting by discussing the scheduled election of officers.  Since the current board was unable to locate willing replacements, the current board has agreed to serve for just one more year only.

Judy has agreed to chair the quilt show again this year.

MARCH MEETING--Cancelled due to inclement weather

MEETING MINUTES:  February 2013
President Suzanne opened the meeting with introductions of those present.  Suzanne reminded that 2013 dues are now due and can be paid to our treasurer.

Discussion was held on activities for 2013.  Marsha noted the activities receiving the most votes were the Bloomington Show and a trip to the fabric store in Roanoke, Indiana.  Due to time constraints it was decided that interested members could car pool to the Bloomington show on Friday, March 8, meeting at the library and sharing transportation expenses.  A date for the Roanoke trip was tentatively set for Aril or May.  Trips to Columbus, Ohio, and Shipshewanna were discussed.  A baby shower for Katie Clayton to be held in July was also discussed.

A virtual trunk show of a Show and Tell session featured a wide variety of projects along with several Valentine themed items.

Quilts of Valor:  Susie Delp brought several Quilts of Valor that were ready for binding and completion of the matching pillow cases.  Susie also discussed some alternatives to be explored other than the normal VA distribution system.  She noted we are not currently getting good feedback from the VA.  Susie also reported that she presented our long arm quilter with a $50 gift certificate as recognition of her providing thread and labor for Quilts of Valor in 2012 and prior.  In future a fee will be paid to defray thread costs on each quilt. Suzanne noted that she is still monitoring the plan for a new building in Falls Park where we, hopefully, can gain some storage space for our Quilts of Valor supplies.

Raffle Quilt:  We had our first look at the beautiful batik 2013 Raffle Quilt.  Joan Jamison displayed the Raffle Quilt and told us it is now ready to be quilted by Linda Lupton.

Eleanor Hickman gave a presentation on the many types and kinds of specialty threads available to quilters.  Her presentation included many items showing how different threads can be used. Linda Lupton told us that the State Quilt Guild will be holding their summer retreat on July 18-20, which will coincide with the annual Marion Hall of Fame event. It was decided that we would not hold a "Sew Day" for February.  The March meeting will be held on March 6 and feature a presentation by Susan Cook and a trunk show.  Thanks to Bob Turner for providing Valentine refreshments.

MEETING MINUTES--JANUARY 2013
President Suzanne opened the meeting with introductions of the 21 folks who were hardy enough to brave the extremely cold temperatures tonight.  Suzanne reminded that 2013 dues are now due and can be paid to our treasurer.

Marsha distributed ballots listing five items members have suggested for guild activities this year.  She asked everyone to vote for a first and second choice on the ballot.  Ballots were returned and will be tallied and results announced at the February meeting.

Judy made a presentation titled "Judy's January Surprise."  Using a unique technique Judy made a very quick strip quilt in less than two hours.  Once the technique is conquered, Judy feels it would be easy to make one in an hour or less.  Using either a jellyroll or cutting strips from a stash, the strips are pieced together end to end on the bias and then folded, sewed, and cut to assemble the quilt.  Specific instructions for this technique were distributed along with the location of an Internet video demonstration for members to watch for further guidance.

Committee Reports:
Jean reported that we have 42 quilts ready for Riley.

Susie told us that we have  21 Quilts of Valor completed with several others in process.  Our long arm quilter is back to work.  It was decided to give the long arm quilter a $50 gift card for her work in 2012 and start paying an undetermined amount per quilt in the future to compensate for thread and other supplies furnished for our Quilts of Valor.  Suzanne noted that we are still seeking a co-chairperson to work with Susie on the Quilts of Valor Project.  She also told us that Pendleton Parks is planning to build a new building in the near future which may possibly develop some storage space for the project within the parks facilities.

Joan reported the Raffle Quilt is ready for borders and will be to the long arm quilter before our next meeting.

A very nice selection of Show and Tell items were displayed prior to adjournment and refreshments.  Thanks to Judy, Eleanor, and Suzanne for providing some tasty treats.

A "Sew Day" was announced for next Wednesday, January 9, from 9:30 to12:30 at the Community Building in Historic Falls Park.  Everyone is welcome to come help on Riley Quilts and Quilts of Valor.

MEETING MINUTES--DECEMBER 2012
President Suzanne presided over our annual Christmas pitch-in celebration in lieu of a formal meeting. Ham and beverages were provided by the guild but the wide variety of tasty dishes brought by members were the real stars of the show. After enjoying the many fine dishes, poinsettia door prizes were awarded to those who completed the word puzzle.

Treasurer and Secretary reports were presented without objections or amendments.

Suzanne distributed precut pieces for a Block of the Month.  The kits were expertly cut and assembled by Kate Mitchell.  The fabrics were various subtle patterns worked in red, white, and blue and will be appropriate for Quilts of Valor.  Members were asked to return completed blocks at the January meeting.

Several interesting holiday themed items were presented for our regular Show and Tell session. Eleanor brought a dogwood photo wall hanging to present to Bob. Bob had taken the photos and printed them but couldn’t decide what to do with them.  He gave them to Eleanor early in the year and was both surprised and pleased that they were returned in such a nice way.

The Raffle Quilt Committee exhibited a sample of the log cabin type blocks that have been assembled for the raffle quilt.  All the other blocks are completed and will be assembled soon so the quilt can be submitted for quilting.

There was no report for Riley Quilts.  Once again we discussed needing someone to volunteer to help Susie with the Quilts of Valor Project.  No progress had been made toward obtaining storage space   in the Falls Park Community Building, but Suzanne is still working toward that goal.

Various ideas were discussed for 2013 activities.  Marcia will be putting together a list of proposed activities so members can vote on them at the January meeting.

MEETING MINUTES--NOVEMBER 2012
President Suzanne over introductions of members and guests.  Suzanne introduced Sherry, our guest speaker.  Sherry gave a program entitled “What If I Tried It This Way?”  Sherry distributed a packet of blank quilt block patterns to enable use of colored pencils or pens to explore different color schemes.  Using the “Contrary Wife” block Sherry presented an extensive array of quilted samples to show how many different settings and color combinations could be achieved using just that one particular quilt block.

Treasurer and Secretary reports were presented without objections or amendments.

Members returned a good quantity of Peggy’s Block of the Month from the October meeting.  Worked in red, white, and blue the blocks should provide at least two Quilts of Valor.

As usual, several interesting items were presented for our regular Show and Tell session.

Suzanne announced the addition of Nancy and Marsha to our special Raffle Quilt Committee.  She noted that much of the cutting has been done and volunteers were invited to a Sew Day on November 14 at the Community Center building in Falls Park.

Jean told us that we now have 31 quilts and a few tote bags on hand and ready for delivery to the Riley Cheer Guild.  She also noted that we have received an appreciation letter from Riley which noted they need around 1,000 quilts per month.

Susie has agreed to continue in her role as the Quilts of Valor chair with the provision that volunteers will help with the project.  Also to ease the logistical burden Suzanne is looking into getting a cabinet placed in the Community Building for storage of batting and other supplies for the Quilts of Valor.  Susie also noted we have around 20 quilts ready for delivery to the VA in May 2013.

Various ideas were discussed for 2013 activities.  Some of those ideas include bus trip to Columbus, Cincinnati, or Bloomington quilt shows; workshop for National Quilter; trip to Hall of Fame Museum in Marion; trip to Shipshewana; quilt garden tour, barn quilt tour; providing subscriptions for two quilt magazine to the library; and making a new quilt for the library to display.

Treasurer Marsha provided a report indicating that the quilt show netted a total of $1.970.40 after all income and expense items were considered.

Peggy presented a Block of the Month project for our guild.  The block is called “Stardust” or “Henry of the West” to be worked in patriotic colors.

Several interesting items were presented for our regular Show and Tell session.

Treasurer and Secretary reports were approved as presented.

Suzanne announced the formation of a special committee to facilitate the 2013 Raffle Quilt Project.  Those members are Joan, Jan, and Avis.  They will be responsible to select a design, obtain fabrics, and oversee the actual creation of the quilt.  It was noted that early production of the raffle quilt increased the financial success of our quilt show this year.

A new feature of the 2013 Quilts In The Park Quilt Show will be a display featuring background information on one of our own quilters.  The Person of Interest for 2013 will be Jean.  It was thought this would help to better personalize our show with the public.  Even nonquilters are interested to learn about the how and why of quilting, and quilters of course are always curious about their quilting colleagues.

Katie also suggested that we might have a special “Challenge” for our quilt show next year.

Suzanne announced a “Sew Day” at the Community Center for Wednesday, October 10th.

Thanks to Melanie and Suzanne  for the autumnal refreshments.

MINUTES--No meeting was held in September due to preparation and management of our QUILTS IN THE PARK QUILT SHOW

MINUTES
MEETING DATE:  August 1, 2012

Suzanne Hagan called the meeting to order and introduced Kent Mick of Roanoke, Indiana.  Mr. Mick is both a quilter and a teacher and has been quilting for ten years.  He does all his own piecing and quilting and presented an extensive collection of his work.  His expert handling of the Mariner’s Star motif was especially impressive and was combined in large and small versions in several of his quilts.

Kent acquainted us with the operation of Fabric and Friends quilt shop in Roanoke and their sale the first Saturday of each month.  He also shared several quilting tips with us.  He admitted that when someone asked him if he was going to try hand quilting he replied he didn’t think he could live long enough to finish a quilt by hand and there would be too much blood on the quilt.

Treasurer and Secretary reports were approved as presented.

Quilts of Valor:  Susie Delp reported that 54 quilts prepared by both Spring Valley and Red Bud Guilds were recently presented to the VA in Indy.

Riley Quilts:  Jean Fox reported that 69 baby quilts, 10 preemie outfits, and 12 hats were recently delivered to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Raffle Quilt:  Marsha Zeller reported that we have $750 in advance ticket sales.  Tickets have been on sale at the Pendleton Historical Museum on weekends.

Quilts in the Park Show:  Judy Tescher passed around sign up sheets for volunteer work assignments for the quilt show.  She noted that additional flyers were available for distribution.

Quilts in the Park Rummage/Boutique:  Members were again encouraged to bring along their fat quarters, yardage, and any other items they wish to contribute to the rummage in September. Any creative crafts and quilting supplies to help with fund raising would be appreciated of course.

Suzanne reported good attendance at Angie's Collectibles Road Show on July 16 at Davis Park in Anderson.  Due to the good attendance a small amount was returned for our guild’s participation in providing refreshments

MINUTES

Quilts in the Park Show:  Sign up for work assignments for the quilt show will be handled at the August meeting.

Quilts in the Park Rummage/Boutique:  Members were again encouraged to bring along their fat quarters, yardage, and any other items they wish to contribute to the rummage in September. Any creative crafts and quilting supplies to help with fund raising would be appreciated of course.

Suzanne reminded us that we agreed to provide refreshments for the Angie's Collectibles Road Show on July 16 at Davis Park on Highway 32 and Layton Road in Anderson.  Registration forms for the show were distributed to interested members.  Suzanne noted that there is a $5 admission charge to the show.  This show was a holdover from several years ago due to health reasons and is reportedly very interesting and worthwhile to anyone interested in sewing and quilting.

To conclude the meeting we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang God Bless America.

MINUTES:
MEETING DATE:  June 6, 2012

Promptly at 6 p.m. President Suzanne gaveled the meeting to order and greeted three guests, our speaker for the evening, and members.  Suzanne pointed out the timely meeting notice that appeared the Anderson and Pendleton newspapers today.  With a full agenda we started the meeting with the presentation from our guest speaker Sherry McConnell.

Among Sherry's many responsibilities, she is on the board at the Marie Webster Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion.  She noted that while the induction of Eleanor Burns into the Quilters Hall of Fame in July will be a major event for the museum, they do have several other interesting exhibits planned as well.  She told us that the museum is receiving  world wide attention with increasingly frequent visitors from Asia and other parts of the world.  However, her principal employment is as a free lance quilter for Bernartex, Inc., a major manufacturer of quilting textiles.  While she works at home she coordinates closely with all levels of design, administration, and production at Bernartex.  This work has a wide spectrum and includes such things as reviewing textile designs for compatibility with quilt patterns, color appropriateness, and most importantly to ascertain if pattern and instructions are clear, concise, and accurate.  Sherry receives textiles and patterns and proceeds to assemble a finished quilt as an end result of her work.  (We have included more information and Internet links to Sherry's presence on the Bernartex web site on the Meeting Photos page.)

Suzanne asked members to sign up for what they would like to bring to our July 3rd Annual Picnic.  She also asked that folks bring patriotic items for Show and Tell, new items and favorite old items very welcomed.

Treasurer and Secretary reports were approved as presented.
Riley Quilts:  We have 65 on hand currently ready for delivery to Riley.
Quilts of Valor:  Since we have not had a regular work day for a while, Susie brought ready to sew kits for members to complete at home.  Our goal is to have 50 Quilts of Valor for the next VA acceptance date.
Raffle Quilt:  Marsha asked that everyone turn in their ticket sales and, hopefully, take another quantity to sell more tickets.  No road exhibits were final at meeting time.
Quilts in the Park Show:  New and larger flyers quilt show flyers were available for distribution.
Quilts in the Park Rummage/Boutique:  Members were encouraged to bring along their fat quarters, yardage, and any other items they wish to contribute to the rummage in September.  Alison exhibited a nice collection of wool fancy hat pin cushions she is making for the boutique.  Any creative crafts and quilting supplies to help with fund raising would be appreciated of course.

Suzanne asked that members be thinking about what they would like to see in the way of a raffle quilt for next year.  Advance planning and early preparation of the quilt will help with fund raising.  With the new fall fabrics coming to stores soon, she felt this would be a good time to be giving this proposition some thought.  Again, she encouraged members to pick up more raffle tickets to sell.

The guild agreed to provide refreshments for the Angie's Collectibles Road Show on July 16 at Davis Park on Highway 32 and Layton Road in Anderson.  This show is an exhibit of antique and collectible sewing accessories and attendees may also bring items for evaluation or just for show and tell purposes.  There is a $5 admission charge to the show which consists of interesting static exhibits or panoramas.   More details of the guild's involvement will be announced at the July meeting per Suzanne.

We enjoyed some very refreshing refreshments provided by Katie and Suzanne to top off a very full, informative, and enjoyable meeting.

Eleanor introduced her friend Arlene Johnstone to speak on wool appliqué techniques.  Arlene said she started working with wool back in 1992.  She noted the many uses of wool in tapestries, art objects, quilts, and coin, penny, or button rugs.  Arlene stressed that 100% wool is easier to work with and outlined sources of resourcing wool from Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.  She recommending washing resourced wool both before and after deconstructing garments.  A tip for testing wool for purity is placing a one-inch square in a small bottle with bleach overnight.  If the material disappears, it is 100% wool.  She also gave several techniques for recoloring wool.  Wool can be cut with a rotary cutter, and pinking shears can be used to establish uniform buttonhole stitches. Arlene recommended using a No. 5 embroidery floss for completing the appliqués with a large eye type appliqué needle.

  • BUSINESS:
Treasurer's report and meeting minutes were approved as submitted.
  • Jean reported that we now have 62 Riley quilts ready to be delivered
  • Susie noted that 14 Quilts of Valor are now ready for the next VA event.  She noted that there would  be no sew day this month.
  • Judy was not present but it was mentioned that fat quarters and other yardage can be brought to any meeting for our Quilts in the Park Quilt Show rummage sale.

May birthday celebrators were favored with a song.  Members were reminded to turn in raffle ticket proceeds as soon as possible.

Suzanne discussed the conflict of our July meeting which falls on the holiday when the library is not open.  She is looking into an alternate date, and it is possible we may have to move to the Community Building in Falls Park.

Thanks to Ina and Corene for providing refreshments following the meeting.

MINUTES:
MEETING:   DATE:  April 4, 2012

Vice President Eleanor called the meeting to order and asked members and guests to introduce themselves.  We had 25 members present and two guests, including our speaker for the evening, Susie Wetzel.

Susie outlined her personal quilting journey and lavishly illustrated it with a myriad of beautiful quilts.  Susie is a well known artist, designer, and quilter who works closely with the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis.  Photos are on the Meeting Photos page.  Thanks to Susie for also providing door prizes.

  • BUSINESS:
Treasurer's report and meeting minutes were approved as submitted.
  • Jean reported that we now have 60 Riley quilts ready to be delivered
  • Susie noted that 13 Quilts of Valor are now ready for the next VA event.  She expects that will occur in May.  Once again Susie noted that Quilts of Valor do not necessarily have to be red-white-blue themed but cannot exceed the 55 inch width of our available batting for this project.
  • Judy reported that she has obtained a commitment from Shirley Liby to judge our Quilts in the Park Quilt Show entries in September.

Both March and April birthdays were recognized.

Raffle ticket packets were distributed to members for our queen size raffle quilt.  Carol reported a very favorable reception for our quilt at the show in Alexandria.  One lady was so impressed that she donated a nice packet of flannel for our Riley Quilt project.  Carol reported that the next public display of the Raffle Quilt will be at the Boone County Home Extension Quilt Show, Lebanon, Indiana, on April 28th.

Eleanor announced that Arlene Johnstone would be presenting a program on techniques for creating wool appliqué work at our May 2nd meeting.

Thanks to Jean and Judy for providing refreshments following the meeting.

MINUTES: DATE:  March 8, 2012

Suzanne called the meeting to order and announced that two of our members entered work in the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show in Bloomington this month.  Eleanor displayed her Architectural quilt which she presented at our February meeting and Judy received a second place ribbon for her appliqué entry.  Congratulations to both ladies.

Jan Baker presented a program on aprons with an extensive display of her work to demonstrate her expertise in producing art aprons.  (See photos on the Meeting Photos page.)  Jan explained she has been making aprons for over 20 years and considers her work more art than craft.  With the beautifully designed and executed examples in her presentation we would have to agree that her work is art.

As part of the apron program many members both wore and exhibited their favorite aprons, both old and new, in many styles and fabrics.  Some of these aprons and a special apron quilt can be seen on the Meeting Photos page.

Gail from East Elementary School gave a talk on her work with guidance for early teen girls.  She brought samples of items produced recently by these girls. Some items used materials donated by our guild.  A clever denim purse, and even more cleverly embellished, was created out of a pair of jeans.

Several interesting quilts were included in our regular Show and Tell session as well as a series of quilted postal cards.

Suzanne announced she has information on a bus tour to the Cincinnati Show on April 14.  The bus leaves Pendleton at 7 a.m. and returns at 8 p.m.  The $50 fee includes transportation, admission to the show, snacks, grab bag, and dinner box on the return trip.

Flyers were distributed for the Quilters Hall of Fame Celebration July 19-21 featuring Eleanor Burns.  That show features workshops, lectures, exhibits, and vendor mall plus tours of the Historic Marie Webster Home and live and silent auctions.  More information can be found at http://quiltershalloffame.net or by calling 765-664-9333.

Linda noted that the State Quilt Guild will be holding a retreat the same weekend of July 19-21 at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana.

Treasurer Marsha noted that a refund had been received from Quilts Plus due to an error on the materials for our Raffle Quilt.  Marsha also distributed updated member information rosters.

Suzanne noted there is a biennial quilt show at the Porter County Expo Center, Highway 49 South, in Valparaiso on March 31 and April 1.  This show is hosted by the String-A-Long Quilt Guild and features quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative

Susie set a work date for Wednesday, March 15, at the Community Center in Falls Park to work on QUILTS OF VALOR and baby quilts for Riley.  Everyone is welcome to come along and help, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jean reported we have 46 quilts ready for Riley and, as usual, more are needed.

Judy reported that she is currently negotiating with a judge for our Quilts In the Park Show in September and will update us when that is finalized.  Flyers for the show were printed and distributed at the Bloomington IHQS show early this month.

We were reminded it is not too early to bring along donations for the rummage sale at the Quilts in the Park Show.  Fat quarters, jelly rolls, charms, yardage, and any quilting items would be welcome for this fund raising effort.

Suzanne noted that Susie Wetzel would be presenting our April program.

MINUTES

DATE:  February 1, 2012

President Suzanne welcomed 27 members and 1 visitor to our February meeting.  After introductions Eleanor presented The Mystery of the Architecture Quilt.  Eleanor provided each member with printed design guides to help in construction of this nicely three dimensional quilt.  Eleanor's example quilt was worked mostly in vibrant Batik colors.  You can see a photo at http://svqg.freewebspace.com/meetingphotos.htm

Secretary and Treasurer reports were read and accepted.

Suzanne handed out a paper on The History of the Apron.  She announced a special Show and Tell for our March meeting and asked members to bring their favorite apron or an antique one.  This would be in addition to our regular Show and Tell event.  Also, a lady who makes fancy aprons as her vocation will share her expertise in a program on making an apron at our March meeting.

Jean reported that due to reorganization Riley Hospital asked that we not bring too many quilts at one time.  We had delivered 100 late in 2011.

Susie noted that we need to keep Quilts of Valor to a set size to match the batting available.  She noted that these quilts are very much appreciated by our returning veterans in the VA Hospital in Indianapolis.  Several quilt guilds and clubs produce Quilts of Valor but the demand for them is very strong.

The Raffle Quilt committee reported that the blue and white material has been obtained from Quilts Plus in Indianapolis and cutting and sewing have commenced.  The current plan is to finish the quilt as soon as possible in order to exhibit it as widely as possible in order to sell raffle tickets prior to our annual Quilts in the Park Quilt Show.  Some thought was given to showing the quilt on line and allow mail-in sale of chances.

Bob handed out instructions for making your own spray starch at home as the "Favorite Thing" portion of the program.

Thanks to Suzanne and Bob for providing refreshments this month.

DATE:   January 4, 2012--Starting our 31st Year

President Suzanne presided over her first meeting as President with 28 folks in attendance.  After opening remarks and introductions Suzanne discussed the meeting agenda for tonight.  She noted that we had one guest brought by Peg.

Our new Treasurer Marsha reminded members that 2012 dues are payable at $10 per member as soon as possible.  Some 30th Year pins are also still available and more are on order.  Marsha reported that our current bank balance is $3,710.53 consisting of $2,487.48 in the General Fund and $1,223.05 in the Charities Account.

The meeting minutes from December were circulated for comments and/or changes and pending any revisions were approved as submitted.

There were no reports on Old or New Business at this time.

A Show and Tell Extravaganza was the program portion of the meeting and items large and small were greeted with oohs and aahs as they were presented.  Many types of items were displayed besides quilts.  Well executed bags of various sizes, wall hangings, and other needle arts were enjoyed by members.  A booklet of photos of items that members have already passed along was also circulated.

Members had been asked to bring fat quarters for use in the Raffle Quilt to this meeting.  After much discussion it was decided that instead of a scrappy quilt a blue and white color scheme would be used in this year’s quilt.  The Raffle Quilt Committee consisting of Carol and Cindy will decide on a pattern and obtain the necessary fabrics as soon as possible.  It was felt that having the quilt completed early in the year would present more opportunities for marketing and ticket sales.  If cutting assistance is needed it can be provided during the February work day on February 8 at the Community Building.

It was noted that Susie has fabrics on hand for Quilts of Valor for anyone interested in helping with that project.

Jean was unable to attend the meeting so we have no current status on the Riley Children’s Hospital Quilt project.

Several members brought brightly colored scraps requested by Barb to be used by East Elementary School in a sewing project for a girls club group at the school.

Suzanne noted that Eleanor and Judy both had quilts on exhibit at the recent Dolly and Me exhibit at the Marie Webster House.

Many thanks to Tracie and Avie for providing refreshments after the meeting.
