Through
the efforts of our members we provide comfort and cheer to the patients at
the Riley Hospital for Children by making quilts for the Riley Cheer Guild.
The Spring Valley Quilt Guild has a chairperson in charge of purchasing
materials, coordinating construction, and delivering quilts to the hospital
periodically.
Quilts are needed to provide warmth and a homey touch to the young patients
at Riley. Just being in a hospital is a disquieting experience for a
child of any age, and this program is just a small effort to make the
experience a little less inhibiting.
The quilts are stored in The Cheer Guild's Toy Room and distributed to
children by hospital staff. The small quilts for infants need only be
two thicknesses of cloth with no batting or filling. One side may be
flannel and the other cotton material with no attachments or enhancements
that could be detached. The backside of the quilt should be of a dark
material; navy, black, or brown as some quilts are placed over isolettes to
keep the light out. The other side should be a pattern or design that
would be appealing to children. There are no real restrictions on
color or thickness for the larger quilts.
QUILT
SIZES
30" x 35"
36" x 48"
45" x 60

Afghans,
either knitted or crocheted, are also given to the patients at Riley.
They need to be made following the same size guidelines as the quilts and
need to made out of new yarn.
A donation of either of these items is a welcome sense of home and
comfort to a child as well as their parents and Riley staff during a
hospital stay.
Donations can be sent to:
